Souma Yukihira has been cooking with his father, Jouichirou, for as long as he can remember. As a sous chef at his father's restaurant, he has spent years honing his culinary skills and creating new dishes to impress customers. He dreams of surpassing his father's talent and taking over the restaurant, but he is shocked to learn that Jouichirou is closing the restaurant to work in New York. Instead of following his father, Souma enrolls in the prestigious Tootsuki Culinary Academy, where only 10 percent of students graduate. The school is renowned for its "Shokugeki"—intense cooking battles between students used to resolve disputes.
